May 6–8, 2025 | Madrid | Madrid Energy Conference 2025
From May 6 to 8, we took part in the Madrid Energy Conference 2025, one of the most important platforms for energy dialogue between Europe and Latin America. We joined as official partners, reaffirming our commitment to a just, ambitious energy transition aligned with the mandates of the Paris Agreement.
Representing the Foundation, our Executive Director Patricio Lombardi was invited to speak on the panel “Climate Politics and Public Perceptions: The Paris Agreement, EU Carbon Border Adjustment Tax and the Non-Linear Energy Transition,” held on May 7 at 10:35 a.m. at the Meliá Serrano Hotel.
Our presence at forums like this is no coincidence: we believe that transforming the global energy system is the only viable path to decarbonizing the atmosphere and restoring climate balance. To achieve this, the private sector must understand that high-integrity carbon markets are essential tools for financing nature-based solutions.
In every intervention, we emphasize that biodiversity is nature’s operating system, and we cannot continue making decisions using outdated conceptual frameworks. As our Executive Director puts it:

«Major international consulting firms and multilateral banks claim that half of the world’s GDP depends on nature. I ask them: what does the other half depend on? It is unthinkable that in the 21st century we still fail to understand that all human activity relies—directly or indirectly—on ecosystem services.«
And he adds:
«Doing just enough is no longer enough. It’s time to step up, break the mold, and invest in solutions that place nature at the center.»
We thank the Institute of the Americas for inviting us once again. Whenever the goal is to build bridges between sectors and regions for the sake of the planet, we’ll be there.
