COP16 | Cali, Colombia | October 21 to November 1, 2024.
We are pleased to announce our participation as observers at the Sixteenth Meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP16), to be held in Cali, Colombia, from October 21st to November 1st of this year.
COP16 carries high expectations as it is the first meeting following the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework in 2022. This summit will bring together world leaders, scientists, and environmental organizations to address the crucial role that biodiversity conservation plays in environmental health, climate action, and sustainable development.
As observers, we will have a valuable opportunity to engage with international stakeholders, share our experiences, and contribute to the ongoing dialogue on the urgent need to promote fair, transparent, and equitable environmental markets. When well-managed, these markets are powerful tools that can play a key role in halting species loss and reaffirming the commitment to protecting the planet’s biodiversity.
Our participation in COP16 reflects EMFF’s dedication to biodiversity conservation, understanding its essential role in maintaining both ecosystem and social balance. As our executive director, Patricio Lombardi, often says: «Biodiversity is the ‘operating system of nature,’ the engine of life.»
In this context, the summit will serve as a platform to amplify the voice of the Global South. This region holds strategic importance as it safeguards the largest natural capital on Earth and is home to more than 80% of the world’s biodiversity.
Lombardi will lead the Foundation’s delegation, accompanied by members of the ACUDE Foundation, with whom we closely collaborate on biodiversity and environmental market projects.
We are thrilled at the opportunity to participate in this summit and look forward to contributing to the conference’s goals. See you there!
