Biodiversity: The Key to Solving the Global Environmental Crisis – Our Role at Terra Tuscany 2024.

Environmental Market Fairness Foundation (EMFF) had the honor of participating in the Terra Tuscany 2024, an event of great international impact that brought together leading sustainability and environmental leaders from some of the world’s most influential organizations. This event took place at Villa Lena, Tuscany, in early September, and addressed crucial topics such as climate action, biodiversity conservation, and international cooperation to meet global sustainability goals.

Our Foundation was represented by our Executive Director, Patricio Lombardi, who emphasized the strategic importance of the Global South and its vast biodiversity as a fundamental pillar in tackling and mitigating the global environmental crisis.

“At EMFF, we are convinced that nature-based solutions (NbS) hold the key, and environmental markets are essential to achieving tangible goals. When managed with fairness and equity, these markets become powerful tools for creating significant positive impact.”, Lombardi stated.

He also highlighted, “Biodiversity is the ‘operating system of nature’, the engine of life. It is crucial that we recognize its central role as we work towards a sustainable planet and a healthy future for all who inhabit it.”

One of the event’s most notable moments was the collaboration with prominent figures such as Emilce Cuda, Secretary of the Pontifical Commission for Latin America, and Roberta Boscolo from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Together, they explored the intersection between meteorological data, climate change, and biodiversity credits. This discussion was particularly relevant given the growing importance of climate data in shaping sustainable development strategies around the world. Patricio’s participation in Terra Tuscany also strengthened EMFF’s global partnerships.

We would like to specially thank Marvin Rottenberg and Terras for the invitation. We are proud to be able to contribute to a shared purpose and vision.
